Understanding the current market conditions is critical to load forecasting, conservation planning, program operation, and baseline development. Bonneville and NEEA have conducted research on regional markets to inform savings claims from codes and standards efforts and other activity happening outside of programs. The role of this subcommittee is to provide independent review of this research. This includes review of the analytical approach, market models, and model results. It is anticipated that this research will be informative to RTF measure development and valuable to programs throughout the region.

The Bonneville Power Administration has developed models of the residential and non-residential lighting markets. The data generated from this analysis will be used to inform RTF UES Measures and Standard Protocols. This was reviewed by the RTF's Market Analysis Subcommittee, which is comprised of many experts in efficient lighting, markets, and programs from across the region Below are materials related to this review.

The BPA market research team has been working diligently to expand their existing research to comprehensively track changes in total Northwest energy consumption in the residential and commercial HVAC markets.  Starting in 2016 BPA developed a method and built a model to better understand the residential air source heat pump market. In 2017/18 BPA started work to expand the model  to include the entire HVAC system, incorporating all system types and measures that influence HVAC electric load. The Market Analysis team is currently developing a research plan and field data collection protocol for a residential HVAC field study which will support the commissioning, controls and sizing measure at here at the RTF.  More information can be found on BPA's website below as well as relevant subcommittees, also below.

Hot Water Market Model

The BPA market research team aims to explore ways to comprehensively track changes in total Northwest energy consumption in the residential hot water market. Their methodology includes entire hot water systems, incorporating a comprehensive list of water heating equipment types and measures that influence hot water use. This model is in an earlier stage of development than the lighting or HVAC markets. More information can be found on BPA's website below as well as relevant subcommittees, also below.
